Default "Upgrade" IPX 2400 to SV7000/8500

Couple of questions to anyone who might know the answer....

1) Is the sole difference between an SV7000 and SV8500 the badge on the box? Is there a level of firmware which accompanied this 'changeover' where something in the programming actually changed too?

2) Is it possible to take a backup of all the programming in an IPX and convert it/feed it back into an SV8500 - thus 'migrating' all the data, or is that nonsensical due to the changes between the two systems?

The best way I have heard it stated is that the SV7000 was a trip down Cisco's philosophy of (and I don't claim this is correct before everyone jumps on me) built in obsolescence.

Whereas the 8500 is supposed to be a return to "NEC values" as the SV7000 concept didn't sit well with the company.

I welcome being corrected!

I thought the SV7000 and the SV8500 were the same thing - they just renamed it because SV7000 didn't fit in the the naming convention of the SV8100, 8300 and 8500 (small, medium, large).

What's the difference between 7000 and 8500?

Sorry

I never went into depth on the system. I just know that the SV7000 was a pain in the @$$. I had to be on call and there was never any training, so you walked into situations that the customer knew more about the system than you did! That said I felt more at ease with the 8500 as the only one I worked on had legacy shelves and those made sense!

I had exactly the same experience with the IPX. NEC sold 2/3 of them in the UK just before an EU law was introduced preventing them selling it in the UK due to the amount of lead in the chassis (I heard...).

So you have these systems, which are inherently on the large side (700 users, my one) with no manufacturer's support, knowledge, training or buddies on the net talking about it because they have one.

Fortunately not my problem anymore.

Shame

I have access to some of the most qualified people outside NEC on the big systems. What they don't know isn't worth knowing! However I'm not sure they would appreciate me posting their knowledge here! Have to rely on my own limited experience!
